Lucille Fay Le Sueur , better known as Joan Crawford (b. San Antonio , Texas , on March 23 of 1905 – f. New York , May 10 of 1977 ) was an actress United States . It was one of the few superstars of the silent period to adapt to talkies in Hollywood . It is considered the tenth female star of all time by the American Film Institute .
Born on March 23 of 1905 in San Antonio ( Texas ), came from a modest family. His father, Thomas Le Sueur , originally French-Canadian , left the family before the birth of Crawford. Then his mother, Anna Bell , originally from Sweden , he married his second wife, Henry Cassin, business theater, which substantially improved the economy and life of the little Lucille.
In 1915 already had a waitress at a hotel in Kansas City, combining his studies at St. Agnes Convent , later in the Rockingham School and finally in Stephen College of Columbia (Missouri) where he learned to dance, the dance was his first vocation, although he suffered an accident that affected his legs. In 1921 he debuted in the choir of the Journal of Katherine Emerine, also in Kansas City.
In 1925 he won a dance contest that facilitated its release as an actress for Metro Goldwyn Mayer , initially only as a double of Norma Shearer . His first film was successful as the butterflies . His marriage to Douglas Fairbanks Jr. also pushed his career.
He took one of the most promiscuous sex lives of Hollywood , not only men but also women. In his list of conquests included Marilyn Monroe , although it is said that she refused. Gained such a reputation for devouring men and women who Bette Davis even said of her that she had slept ” with all the stars of the Metro Goldwyn Mayer, except the dog Lassie.”
After four films changed its name to Joan Crawford . Starting in 1944, leaving the Metro and works alternately in several production without being tied to any: the Warner Brothers , the Columbia and at the end of his career, the RKO.
